Women, a lady is in the center of the society, without her we can't dream of the life that exist in the universe. Female being the symbol of nature, creation, life, affection in the motherhood. We can see her as mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, granny, wife, teacher, colleague in our daily life. We treat her as goddess and offer our beliefs and ask for the well-being in our life. This is the first perception we have about a female. The second perception is quite scaring. She is treated as a physical material which is only made for exploiting. Before moving to this part, we have to dig out to roots of this evil mentality. Deep back in uncivilized culture when we have no food to eat, no shelter to live just wandering here and there in search of food and shelter. we used to be almost naked and used to live in groups. There was no sexual traits and rituals and even sense of even and odd. With passage of time, communal development come into the light.
Moral development for women has built and marital relations come into existence. Society has been divided into castes, community. With growth in economical status. having women has been treated a matter of proud. But still the other areas of society were still growing with evil mentality. Prostitution existed in that time also. People on the higher stairs of society used to have multiple women while at the lower ones, women were used to be exploited as slaves for household works, at workplace physical and sexual harassments not were new. India has been under colonial suppression for years. During this period, such exploitation were very common and these incidents even not in limelight due to unavailability of freedom of speech and press facilities very not as available as today.
Dayanand Sarasvati, Ishwar Chand Vidyasagar, Jyotiba Phule, various social reformers firmed their voice against the cruelty against woman and laid down brilliant efforts against Sati Pratha and Widow Remarriage, one of the most brutal cruelty against woman, in which she is forced to burn alive with his husband's dead body after his death. After Independence, More and more efforts were done for Woman education and giving more and more opportunities to uprise her status. Beside all out efforts, still the situation is same as the first day, uncivilized state. Our mentality has not changed a single inch even after so many years. There is not a single district where Red light area does not exist. We can dream that a girl can wander freely in late night hours. Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai records maximum of such assault and harassment cases every year. Such crimes are not with a specified age group, A major of these violence happen with girl child & even under 5 year. Number of criminal and safety laws has been inlined by the govt to measure the women and girl child safety like POCSO Act, SAKHI Cneters and Prevention of Voilence at workplace but still we can feel that there is yet to come from our inside, only then we can say growth on earth.
